How Do You Rank and Do You Care?

feature photo

I recently learned of a tool called Qwitter which will let you know when people on Twitter unfollow you and after which tweet it was that they did so. I am not sure I have decided whether this is a worthwhile tool to learn when you are beoming non-relevant or whether it is really just another tool for the Twitter obsessed.

There are so many different tools that people use to determine their own personal relevance on Twitter and for the most part I don’t think any of them are very scientific but they do offer a bit of fun.  Here are a few of the ones that I have heard about recently, I would really appreciate your thoughts on what you can glean from tools like these, are they just fun for the Twitter obsessed or do you have some way you learn from them? What other tools have I missed?

- BTW An update to this story, a Twitter friend pointed me to a nicely written post on how to improve your Twinfluence where that and Twitter Grader are also compared.

  • Twittergrader – I don’t really find that this tool teaches you anything but it can be a decent place to find some people to follow
  • Twittercounter – A decent way to predict what your follower count will be in the coming days but again doesn’t really teach you anything
  • Qwitter – I just signed up for this service so I can’t really say what it offers yet, but in theory it should let you know if you’ve become annoying
  • Twinfluence – I like this one because I think they at least try to explain to you what the values of Velocity, Social Capital and Centralization mean
  • Twitterank – A pretty meaningless score in my opinon, but apparently I rank well

  1. I’ll be honest… I don’t care. Numbers don’t mean much in the scheme of things. If I’m connecting with people and having fun and learning things, I’m happy.
